Comparison between Quantile Regression Technique and Generalised Additive Model for Regional Flood Frequency Analysis: A Case Study for Victoria, Australia

چکیده
For design flood estimation in ungauged catchments, Regional Flood Frequency Analysis (RFFA) is commonly used. Most of the RFFA methods are primarily based on linear modelling approaches, which do not account for inherent nonlinearity rainfall-runoff processes. Using data from 114 catchments Victoria, Australia, this study employs Generalised Additive Model (GAM) and compares results with method known as Quantile Regression Technique (QRT). The GAM model performance found to be better smaller return periods (i.e., 2, 5 10 years) a median relative error ranging 16–41%. higher 20, 50 100 years), log-log regression (QRT) outperforms 31–59%.

Comparison of hybrid regression and multivariate regression in the regional flood frequency analysis: A case study in Khorasan Razavi province
Background: Magnitude, rate and frequency of the stochastic and unexpected events are of great significance and importance in hydrology. Nowadays, for economic planning of the projects, the use of analytical methods of unexpected events in hydrology is unavoidable. The aim of this study was to compare hybrid regression and multivariate regression to estimate flood peak discharge in the province...

in regions with deficient or no data, it is necessary to apply indirect methods to estimate the peak flow. regional flood analysis is the most accurate and reliable technique in such cases. one of the regional flood methods for flood analysis in arid and semi arid regions is hybrid technique, which was applied on data of khorasan razavi province watersheds to estimate the peak flow. hybrid meth...
متن کاملA regional Bayesian POT model for flood frequency analysis
Flood Frequency Analysis is usually based on the fitting of an extreme value distribution to the series of local streamflow. However, when the local data series is short, frequency analysis results become unreliable. Regional frequency analysis is a convenient way to reduce the estimation uncertainty. In this work, we propose a regional Bayesian model for short record length sites. This model i...

متن کاملAdditive models for quantile regression: Model selection and confidence bandaids
Additive models for conditional quantile functions provide an attractive framework for nonparametric regression applications focused on features of the response beyond its central tendency. Total variation roughness penalities can be used to control the smoothness of the additive components much as squared Sobelev penalties are used for classical L2 smoothing splines. We describe a general appr...
